Dr. Janis Miyasaki

MD, MEd, FRCPC, FAAN

 


Dr. Janis Miyasaki is a member of the Movement Disorders Program at the University of Alberta, Kaye Edmonton Clinic and University Hospital.  She completed her undergraduate, medical school and neurology training at the University of Toronto.  Dr. Miyasaki completed a clinical research fellowship under Dr. Anthony Lang at the University of Toronto focusing on pallidotomy for Parkinson disease from 1992-94.  Since a999, she was full-time faculty at the University of Toronto and served as the Deputy Physician-in-Chief at Toronto Western Hospital, the President of the Medical Staff and other leadership roles.  While in Toronto, she established the first interdisciplinary Palliative Care Program for Parkinson disease and Other Neurodegenerative Disorders in the world

Since moving to the University of Alberta in March 2014, she continues to promote palliative care for Neurodegenerative disease.  She is currently a member of the Board of Directors for the American Academy of Neurology and the Lead for Ambulatory Clinical Services in Neurology at the University of Alberta.
